On May 21, 2026, the "Asia-Pacific Seminar on Sustainable Development Green Mining & Mineral Supply Chain," hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOFCOM) and organized by CCCMC, was successfully held at the Suzhou Jinji Lake International Conference Center. High-level representatives from government, industry, academia, and international organizations attended the event to jointly explore pathways for collaborative development and sustainable growth of green mining and mineral supply chains in the Asia-Pacific region.
Li Chenggang, China International Trade Representative (full minister rank) and Vice Minister of Commerce, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. Li Chenggang stated that Chinese mining enterprises, leveraging technological breakthroughs and model innovations, have been actively sharing their green transition experience in areas such as green mining areas, smart mines, and ecological restoration, continuously providing global partners with China's solutions for the green development of mineral supply chains. In the wave of green and low-carbon transition, the greening of the mining industry has become an inevitable trend. All parties in the global mining sector should strengthen solidarity and cooperation, jointly build stable and resilient green mineral supply chains, and help foster new drivers of growth for the world economy amid the green transition.
International Trade Representative (full minister rank) and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang Delivers Speech
Li Chenggang put forward four proposals: first, to foster an open and secure political environment; second, to promote inclusive and sustainable development; third, to strengthen the development of the green mineral supply chain system; and fourth, to deepen international cooperation on green minerals. China, as a steadfast practitioner and active promoter of green innovation and development, is willing to work with all parties to deepen efforts on green minerals, fully leverage the driving role of green minerals in the green transformation of the economy and society, and make greater contributions to maintaining the stable development of the global green mineral supply chain.
Fan Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, Delivers Speech
In his speech, Fan Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, stated that Suzhou, as a globally important industrial base for new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, and consumer electronics, has enormous demand for green minerals such as copper, aluminum, lithium, and cobalt. The city is making concerted efforts from three aspects, leveraging its manufacturing strengths, expanding technology supply, and sharing open markets, to build a safe, sustainable, and more resilient green mineral supply chain. Fan Bo sincerely looks forward to deepening cooperation with enterprises and will continue to foster a first-level business environment, joining hands with all parties to inject new momentum into the green transformation of the Asia-Pacific region.
Jiang Hui, Chairman of CCCMC and Secretary-General of the International Economic and Trade Cooperation Initiative on Green Mining and Minerals, Delivers Speech
In his speech, Jiang Hui, Chairman of CCCMC and Secretary-General of the International Economic and Trade Cooperation Initiative on Green Mining and Minerals, stated that open cooperation, green development, and mutual benefit represent the right direction aligned with the common interests of all countries. The purpose of the initiative is to share the dividends of the energy transition, help countries achieve value addition, industrial upgrading, economic diversification, and sustainable development, ensure that mineral development better benefits the people of all nations, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. The Initiative will focus on practical cooperation in areas such as policy dialogue, technology sharing, investment and financing matchmaking, capacity building, case promotion, and multi-stakeholder coordination. He called on all parties to strengthen coordination, pool their efforts, and work together to build a stable, secure, green, and inclusive mineral supply chain.
Guests of the Thematic Speech Session
The thematic speech session was moderated by Li Tiantian, director of the Development Department / Secretary of the Alliance of Chinese Enterprises in Africa for Corporate Social Responsibility. Carlos Raúl Vásquez Corrales, Ambassador of Peru to China, emphasized that Peru adheres to the principles of environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness in promoting the resilience and local value addition of green mineral supply chains. Sascha Markus Raabe, Head of the Global Alliance for Responsible and Green Minerals under UNIDO, introduced the Asia-Pacific green mineral governance process within the UN framework, highlighting the promotion of responsible, green, and inclusive mineral supply chains and the integration of ESG standards through the global alliance. Che Changbo, Secretary-General of the China Mining Association, shared Chinese practices and cooperation initiatives for jointly building safe, resilient, and green mineral supply chains, focusing on uniting upstream and downstream forces to promote sustainable and green development in the industry.
Roundtable discussion session
The first roundtable discussion, themed "Source Governance and Supply Chain Security and Resilience," was moderated by Wang Ning, Researcher at the Development Department of CCCMC. The panelists included Boris Kelecevic, Acting Head of the Regional Delegation for East Asia of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); Chen Zhenyu, Researcher at the Institute of Mineral Resources, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences; Hu Yue, Joint Head of Nature and Climate, Greater China, World Economic Forum; Qiu Wangzhi, Director of ESG and Safety Management Department, Tianyi Lithium; Wang Fan, Head of Corporate Public Affairs, Anglo American China; and Du Yumei, Senior ESG Manager, CMOC. The panelists unanimously agreed that strengthening ESG risk governance in mining is the foundation for maintaining the resilience of the entire mineral supply chain, and requires coordinated efforts from enterprises, international organizations, and multilateral mechanisms.
Roundtable discussion session
The second roundtable discussion, themed "Jointly Consulting and Building a Sustainable Green Mineral Supply Chain," was moderated by Wang Xiaoguang, Director of the Sustainable Development Department of the China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE). The panelists included Wang Xue, Co-founder of Bocui Cycle; Li Wenjie, Deputy Director of the Suzhou Industrial Park Institute of Urban Development; Nan Lihui, General Manager of Government Relations, China, Rio Tinto; Liu Zheng, Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications, Asia, International Copper Association; Ye Xiaohan, Vice President of the High-Growth Business Center, LONGi Green Energy; and Zhou Huidong, General Manager of EHS, Company Compliance Officer and ESG Secretary-General, Envision Group. The panelists shared their insights on topics such as building regional cooperation networks, promoting mutual recognition of green mineral standards, and advancing circular economy and technological innovation. They emphasized the need to leverage the bridging role of leading enterprises in the industrial chain and international multilateral platforms, and to jointly consult and build an open and inclusive cooperative ecosystem for green mineral supply chains.
Meeting Scene
The seminar was held concurrently with the 32nd APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting, providing a practical platform for stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific regional green mineral supply chain to build consensus and explore cooperation pathways. Participants agreed that the outcomes of the seminar will provide strong support for promoting the development of the regional green mineral supply chain in a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable direction, and also serve as an important practice of the International Economic and Trade Cooperation Initiative on Green Mining and Minerals in the Asia-Pacific region.
