On May 30, 2024, Tefera Derbew Yimam, the Ethiopian Ambassador to China, was invited to visit the Alliance. He engaged in friendly discussions with the Executive President Diao Chunhe on topics such as promoting Chinese companies' social responsibility in Africa and further enhancing investment and trade activities between China and Ethiopia. Vice President Liu Zhonghui of the Alliance attended the event. Also present were Xiao Zhiqiang, Deputy General Manager of the East Africa Regional Center of China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC), Zhao Yanqiang from the Overseas Business Department of CCCC, Li Tiantian, Director of the Alliance Office, and Deputy Commissioner Zhou Yangfan and Zheng Yao.
President Diao Chunhe welcomed Ambassador Yimam's visit. He briefed the Ambassador on the Alliance's visit to Ethiopia at the end of last year and its recent activities in Africa. President Diao mentioned that this year marks a significant period for China-Africa cooperation, with the Alliance planning to host a series of trade and economic promotion activities in conjunction with the new session of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum. The Alliance extended an invitation to the embassy to participate in these events, aiming to promote Ethiopia's investment environment and market advantages to attract more Chinese enterprises to invest and operate in Ethiopia.
Regarding guiding companies in fulfilling social responsibilities, the Alliance expressed its willingness to collaborate with relevant Ethiopian government departments to facilitate the implementation of more cooperative projects in areas such as malaria prevention and community development.
Ambassador Yimam expressed his gratitude for President Diao Chunhe's reception. He mentioned that last year, when the Ethiopian Prime Minister visited China, Ethiopia and China established a comprehensive strategic partnership, which is of significant importance for promoting bilateral relations and advancing the construction of a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. China is Ethiopia's largest trading partner, with over 1800 Chinese companies currently investing and operating in Ethiopia, demonstrating excellent capacity in fulfilling their responsibilities. Ethiopia has great potential for development in mining, agriculture, and pharmaceutical sectors. The embassy is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Alliance across various fields to promote Ethiopia's sustainable economic development. They will timely exchange information on project needs with the Alliance, actively participate in various activities organized by the Alliance, and promote high-quality development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
